Iron infusion
appointments
Information for patients whose clinician has recommended intravenous iron.
Your questions, answered
What is an iron infusion?
An iron infusion delivers iron into a vein through a small cannula. It is a medical treatment requiring assessment and a prescription, rather than a general wellness drip.
When might an infusion be recommended?
Your doctor may consider an infusion for confirmed iron deficiency when oral iron is unsuitable, not tolerated or insufficient. Blood tests and assessment guide the decision.
Do I need to bring my own vial?
Yes. Patients at Yasmine’s Aesthetics need to bring their prescribed iron vial or vials. Collect them from a pharmacy and keep them in the original packaging. Confirm the prescribed preparation and required quantity with the clinic before your appointment, and follow the pharmacist’s storage instructions.
What documents should I bring?
Contact the clinic beforehand to confirm the prescription, treatment order and relevant blood test results needed for your appointment. Bring your medication list and tell the team about previous infusion reactions.
What happens during the appointment?
The team checks your treatment plan and monitors you during the infusion and afterwards. The appointment includes time for preparation and observation, not just the infusion itself.
How long will it take?
Timing depends on the prescribed preparation and dose. Ask the clinic for your appointment duration. Observation is generally required for at least 30 minutes afterwards.
What side effects or risks are possible?
Headache, nausea, muscle or joint pain, changes in blood pressure and infusion-site discomfort can occur. A severe allergic reaction is rare but possible. Leakage outside the vein can cause permanent skin staining. Report pain or swelling at the cannula immediately.
What should I disclose before treatment?
Tell the team about allergies, previous iron reactions, infection, high iron levels, liver disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and medicines or supplements. Your clinician assesses suitability.
What should I do afterwards?
Follow your individual aftercare and blood-test plan. Contact your clinician for persistent symptoms. Seek urgent help for breathing difficulty, chest pain or throat swelling; call 000 if these occur after leaving the clinic.
Will I need more infusions?
Your doctor determines this from your diagnosis, blood tests and response. Do not arrange repeat doses without medical review.
